When to start solid food:

It is very important to prepare from the start to fulfill your baby's need. As a mother we have to learn how much and which nutrients our child needs at which age. Mother's milk is the best food for baby which complete all their needs and help them grow healthy.  But after some time you have to introduce some solid food to your baby.


Normally from the age of 6 months we can introduce solid food to babies. Also pedestrians suggest to wait till 6 months to give any solid food to babies. 

Some parents introduce solid food to their babies early from the 4 months, but this is not advisable to start this early.  Instead of solid food we can give water and some watery liquid of lentils and plain rice water.

How to start solid food:

As your baby becomes 6 months old then you can start solid food to them. Some new parents don't know how to start solid food to the baby. There is no need to worry about it. You should only start by giving some liquid foods first, once your baby start to like its taste then you can start by making it solid.

After some liquids you can also start giving solids to your baby by giving finger cuts of healthy fruits. So they can eat it by themselves and you you will know which fruit they like the most and which fruit they don't like to eat.

While introducing food to your baby it may happen that your baby will not eat it properly, he/she only play from it or refuses to eat. You must be patience for introducing food to babies. It is not an easy task to do you have to have some patience and continue to feed child.


Keep in mind some points:

While you introduce food to babies as a parent you should keep some points in mind. 

  1. If you breastfeed your baby keep breastfeeding to them for at least 12 months. Breastfeeding is one of the most important key in your child's health. Do not stop breastfeeding while introducing food to the baby.
  2. Keep an eye on food which you are giving to your baby that is it allergic to the baby or not. If you find any allergic symptoms stop giving that food to your baby.
  3. Make list of food which are healthy for babies and try to organize a meal plan for your baby and feed according to meal plan.
  4. Do not feed heavy food items which are not easy to digest for babies.
  5. Always try to feed baby on time and regularly feed them on that time so it will become routine to baby.
  6. Do not ever force babies to eat when they are not in mood to eat. If you do so then baby will always thinks that eating time is not good and they always refuses to eat.
  7. Make eating time a playtime, play with them, chat with them while feeding so they can enjoy the food.
  8. Don't feed processed food or fast food to babies.


Some healthy food:


After 4 months you can introduce almonds and dates to baby.

Fruits like Apple, Avocado, Banana, Pear, Mango, etc.

Boil lentils in water and give that water to babies it is also a healthy one.

Ragii  is one of the healthy food.

Sabudana is also a healthy food for babies.

Potatoes, carrot, peas, sweet potatoes, garlic are also healthy for babies.

Dry fruits are also healthy food for babies.



Healthy Recipes for Baby:


1. Mashed potatoes

Take half sweet potato boiled it in some water, when potato becomes tender add a pinch of salt and mashed it and make liquidly puree of it. Feed it to baby.



2. Potato , carrot, peas puree

1/2 potato
1/4 carrot
2 tbsp peas

Wash all the vegetables, peel them and cut it into small pieces. peel the potato and carrot and cut it into small pieces. Put all the veggies in a pressure cooker after 3 to 4 whistle take out the veggies, put it in a jar add a pinch of salt some water and grind it in a grinder. Feed it to your baby.


3. Sweet potato puree

Take half sweet potato wash it and boil it in a pressure cooker, after 3 or 4 whistle peel it and make smooth paste or puree of it and feed to the baby. sweet potato is one of the healthy food items.


4. Healthy khichdi 

1/2 cup rice
1/4 cup sabudana
2 tbsp lentils
4 or 5 almonds
2 or 3 cashews
2 or 3 pistachios


Take rice, lentils wash it and roast it on frying pan, roast it till golden remove it and put aside, roast sabudana, almonds and cashews and pistachios. put all the ingredients in mixer jar grind it in a very fine powder, store this powder in a air tight container.  

Add a spoon full ghee or oil in a frying pan add pinch of garlic paste, pinch of salt, turmeric, fry till golden then add one tbspn powder of khichdi fry it for a minute add some water and bring it to boil. Make the gas flame slow and make it a smooth khichdi. serve to the babies.

It is one of the healthiest recipe which i also used for my baby and believe me it good for babies health. 



5. Apple puree 

Take 1/2 apple peel it and make small cubes of it. add some water to a pan and boil till it becomes tender. remove it in a grinder jar and make a paste of it, feed it to baby. If apple is not sweet in taste then you can add a date or other fruits with it.



6. Mashed avocado

Take half avocado peel it cut it into small pieces and mashed it with masher, feed it to baby.
